SI of The Tri-Cities

Charter Year: 1999

SI TriCities was chartered in 1999. With a growing and very active membership, this group makes a real difference in the TriCities. We have supported many community groups including Children of the Street Society, Pacific Post Partum Support Society, Prostitution Alternatives Counseling & Education, Glory House, West Coast Family Resources, Ridge Meadows Resource Center, Cythera Transition House, and Pregnancy Concerns, to name just a few. We've also made comfort cushions for women who've undergone mastectomies, and organized packages of socks and underwear for the homeless women in the TriCities.

In 2007, the club voted for a 4 year initiative to help improve the lives of the homeless women in the TriCities, with targeted fundraising efforts for this period of time.

In addition to our lively business and program meetings, we also regularly meet to sort and arrange clothing drops for community agencies, and engage in a variety of fun events like games nights, bowling nights, and our annual retreat to Sechelt. We’re also proud to be the first club in Canada with a multicultural committee.

Our signature event, the Annual Women's Recognition Awards Luncheon, sells out yearly and not only acknowledges amazing women for their contributions and efforts, but also continues to raise significant funds to go back into the community. At the 2007 event, over $18,000 was donated to various women and community organizations.

History of the Tri-Cities

The Tri-Cities is the informal name given to three contiguous eastern suburbs of Vancouver, namely: Coquitlam -- the largest and central, Port Coquitlam - south - east portion of the area, and Port Moody. Two additional villages are generally considered part of the Tri-Cities and are also part of School District 43: Anmore and Belcarra. The combined population of these cities and villages is estimated in 2005 at about 200,000.

The Tri Cities' central location and unique setting along the Pitt and Fraser Rivers combine to produce truly exceptional living and recreation environments for it's residents. As the geographical centre of the Lower Mainland, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam and Port Moody offers easy westbound access via road or commuter rail to downtown Vancouver and eastbound access to the rapidly developing Fraser Valley.

Opportunities for recreation and leisure activities are plentiful in Tri Cities. With 17 miles of waterfront in the region, boating and sailing are a large part of Port Moody's leisurely lifestyle. From its pristine setting on Burrard Inlet, Port Moody offers unlimited opportunities for outdoor activities ranging from boating, swimming, hiking and cycling to breathtaking nature trails and wildlife observation.

Mundy Park in southwest Coquitlam is one of the Lower Mainland's largest forest parks at 435 acres, and includes walking trails and two scenic lakes. Nearby Riverview Forest features a large collection of old growth trees.
